Staff Engineer – Electrical
The role involves working with a project team during the design and construction of utility‑scale solar projects, adapting electrical plans to design requirements, site constraints, and client preferences.
Responsibilities
- Perform electrical design of utility‑scale solar projects from conceptual phase through design completion, including equipment layouts, one‑line diagrams, cable routing, communications systems, grounding design, equipment selection, and specifications.
- Model electrical systems in ETAP to evaluate cable ampacity, voltage drop, ground potential rise, and thermal performance.
- Develop comprehensive electrical engineering reports, including short‑circuit studies, load‑flow analyses, arc‑flash hazard assessments, and ground grid evaluations.
- Create, modify, and review PV electric supply stations using PVsyst and System Advisor Model.
- Create, modify, and review electrical drawings and construction details using AutoCAD.
- Perform engineering and design functions as necessary to meet project schedules.
- Conduct site reviews and construction site visits.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Renewable Energy Systems.
- Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
- Reliable, efficient self‑starter with initiative and sense of responsibility.
- Prior internship experience desired.
- Prior AutoCAD and ETAP experience desired.
- Working knowledge of electrical components including PV modules, inverters, transformers, surge arresters, and circuit breakers.
- Familiarity with electrical engineering standards/codes: NEC, NFPA, IEEE, IEC, UL, NESC.
- Ability to communicate effectively via telephone, written, email, and in person.
- Ability to keep accurate, detailed records or notes.
