Fastly is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Control Systems team. You will join engineers who build scalable, high-availability systems and translate customer intent into configuration data powering Fastly’s edge platform.

This role offers collaboration across teams and a culture of ownership and trust. The ideal candidate has deep experience with distributed systems, Go, and a demonstrated ability to lead complex initiatives across multiple teams.

Qualifications

• Significant domain-relevant engineering experience building highly reliable distributed systems (7+ years).
• Solid understanding of the Go programming language.
• Willingness to learn Perl to support core infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Support, deploy, and share responsibility for large scale Perl production systems that store and ship configuration changes to thousands of nodes globally.
• Drive architectural and operational improvements by evolving complex legacy systems into maintainable, performant Go microservices.
• Provide technical leadership of engineering projects and coordinate with stakeholders.
