SimSpace is seeking a Staff Engineer to provide technical leadership for the Range Against the Machine team. The role spans range architecture, networking, OS, virtualization, cybersecurity, automation, and ICS/OT environments.

You will solve complex problems directly while scaling the team's capabilities through architecture, standards, automation, and mentoring. The position emphasizes hands-on implementation and cross-team influence, with opportunities to shape long-term platform strategy and

Qualifications

• 6-8 years of experience in a Staff-level capacity or equivalent.
• Experience designing, building, automating, and supporting complex infrastructure or cybersecurity environments.
• Advanced enterprise-networking and troubleshooting across routing, switching, firewalls, NAT, DNS, DHCP, VPNs.
• Hands-on Windows Server and Active Directory administration and Linux administration across distributions.
• Production experience with Ansible, Packer, VMware vCenter, and at least one virtualization or cloud platform.
• Experience integrating enterprise security technologies and ICS/OT architecture constraints.
• Proven ability to lead ambiguous technical initiatives and mentor engineers.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for reusable cyber ranges and trade-offs among realism, security, and performance.
• Improve Ansible and Packer architecture and automation for modular, testable configurations.
• Design and troubleshoot complex networks, VMware infrastructure, Windows AD, Linux, and ICS/OT environments.
• Diagnose failures across networks, OS, virtualization, images, and platform services.
• Identify gaps between requirements and platform capabilities; propose bounded interim solutions.
• Lead cross-team technical decisions; establish standards and mentor engineers.
