Job summary

Uber Technologies Inc. is seeking a Staff Engineer in Core Infrastructure to lead architecture and evolution of systems powering Uber’s global business. You will own the technical roadmap for critical sub-systems and collaborate across teams to support large-scale, data-intensive workloads including AI and autonomous vehicle data.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 8+ years of full-time Software Engineering work experience (inclusive of PhD research or equivalent specialised education).
• Systems Languages: Deep, hands-on proficiency in Go, Java, or C++.
• Distributed Systems Mastery: Design, build, and productionise large-scale, high-availability infrastructure services.
• Execution Excellence: Lead complex, multi-quarter technical initiatives from design to fleet-wide rollout.

Responsibilities

• Lead Architectural Evolution: Identify architectural gaps in compute and networking; drive global projects (e.g., standardized CNI/Envoy or shared GPU pools).
• Drive Efficiency at Scale: Increase fleet-wide CPU utilisation and accelerate ARM adoption to reduce unit costs.
• Modernise for Multi-Cloud: Direct Thrive in Cloud strategy for resilient, active-active foundations across providers.
• Integrate AIOps & Automation: Develop "Agentic" infra tools to automate 80% of alert triaging and incident response.
• Champion "Security by Design": Ensure 100% service-to-service authorisation and zero-trust networking.
• Drive Cross-Functional Impact: Collaborate with Storage, Data, and Product teams to support larger ranking models and L4 AV data ingestion.
• Mentor & Scale Talent: Mentor engineers and foster operational excellence across the organization.
