Job summary

Brex is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for its Product Data Platform in Seattle. You will shape technical direction across teams, own critical performance and scalability improvements, and drive architectural decisions in a high-autonomy environment.

You will mentor senior engineers, work on JVM-based systems (Kotlin/Java), and help Brex deliver scalable data-powered product experiences for finance teams.

Qualifications

8+ years of backend engineering experience on large-scale systems.
Proven track record delivering multi-team architectures.
Deep expertise in relational databases and query optimization.
Excellent written and verbal communication for stakeholder alignment.
Experience mentoring senior engineers and leading by influence.

Responsibilities

Define technical strategy for PDP initiatives across multiple teams.
Resolve systemic performance, consistency, and scalability issues.
Own architecture direction for query performance and data access.
Design distributed systems with careful tradeoffs on latency and cost.
Raise the bar via design reviews and architecture decisions.
Identify scaling risks and develop cross-team plans.
Mentor engineers and grow technical leadership within PDP.
Contribute on high-stakes initiatives, primarily in JVM (Kotlin/Java).
