Job description

Job Description Summary

As Staff Engineer – Advanced Manufacturing, you will serve as a technical focal for rotating parts manufacturing and will support one of four core business areas: Small Turbine Disks; Medium Turbine Disks; Shafts and Spools; Seals. In this role, you will lead and develop advanced manufacturing solutions across both current-state production and future-state capability building, partnering closely with NC Programmers, CMM Programmers, and Methods Planners to drive CNC programming, inspection programming, process development, and project execution. You will help mature concurrent technologies, support NPI, new technology, and new equipment implementation, and lead larger-scale manufacturing projects that improve production readiness and performance. This role also offers the opportunity to influence the New Product Development Center by developing and proving out new processes with a dedicated team before transferring them into production cells. Come and elevate your career in a facility that combines a rich tradition of aviation technology with a deep commitment to the future of flight. The GE Aerospace manufacturing site in Lynn designs, produces, assembles and tests military and commercial aircraft engines and components. With 1.6 million square feet of manufacturing space, we’re making a huge contribution to the future of flight. And, considering that the very first jet engines were born here in 1942, we clearly are the career home of people who are deeply knowledgeable about building quality engines. What’s more, GE Aerospace has invested more than $100 million in our facility in the last five years alone.

Job Description Essential Responsibilities
  • Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce advanced manufacturing solutions to meet current and future state production needs.
  • Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact.
  • Industrialize new rotating parts into the shop, including process routing definition, tooling and fixturing design, machining strategy, and inspection plans.
  • Drive producibility reviews, DFM/DFA input, and process risk assessments.
  • Lead the evaluation, selection, justification, and implementation of new machining, inspection, and automation equipment for rotating parts.
  • Develop equipment specifications, support CapEx business cases, and lead runoffs, SAT/FAT, and production handoff.
  • Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art in aerospace machining to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs.
  • Develop, validate, and standardize robust machining processes for complex aerospace components.
  • Optimize cycle time, tool life, and process capability while maintaining compliance with aerospace quality and regulatory standards.
  • Provide technical consultation on product problems throughout the business.
  • Provide daily technical support to the shop for machining, set‑up, and inspection issues.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action using structured problem‑solving methods (8D, A3, fishbone, 5‑Why).
  • Provide technical consultation to cross‑functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues.
  • Provide technical guidance, direction and training to new and experienced materials engineers, specialists, technicians and co‑ops.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering OR a HS Diploma/GED with 4 years of aerospace manufacturing and project management.
  • Minimum of 5 additional years of experience in aerospace manufacturing and project management.
Desired Characteristics
  • 7-10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, advanced manufacturing, or precision machining in aerospace or similar industries.
  • Proven ability to develop manufacturing processes from new part prints and establish production‑ready methods in at least one technical specialty, along with the ability to teach and set standard practices within this field.
  • Experience balancing technical execution with project leadership, including equipment procurement, capital planning, and stakeholder communication.
  • Strong machining background in milling and turning of aerospace alloys such as nickel‑based superalloys and titanium or other hard‑to‑machine aerospace alloys. Cylindrical grinding experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with inspection methods, standard gauging, and manufacturing quality requirements.
  • Experience with tooling, fixtures, NC programming, and process development.
  • Proficiency with Siemens NX (prior programming experience preferred) and Statistical Analysis in Minitab.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or similar planning tools.
  • Experience leading capital, new technology, or equipment implementation projects.
  • Ability to lead small teams and influence cross‑functional partners without direct supervisory responsibility.
  • Strong communication, leadership, project management, and structured problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply FLIGHT DECK principles to drive Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost in manufacturing environments.
