Job summary

NV5’s Nevada City, CA office is seeking a Staff Engineer who resides in or near Northern California to join our in-office team. This role supports a diverse portfolio of geotechnical and civil infrastructure projects.

Under the guidance of a Senior Engineer, you will assist with analysis, design development, drafting, and project implementation, collaborating with civil, structural, and environmental professionals.

Qualifications

• Civil Engineering degree or master's with a focus in geotechnical engineering.
• 1-4 years of experience is a plus.
• EIT working toward PE license.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical investigations and field studies 75%-80%.
• Prepare, check, and review plans, detail drawings, and specifications for site layout, foundations, structural steel, and underground utilities under supervision.
• Develop 2D and 3D construction/layout drawings for site grading/drainage/permit drawings.
• Coordinate Civil and Structural designs with Mechanical and Electrical / I&C disciplines.
• Review and compare Civil / Structural subcontractor drawings against base models for accuracy and completeness.
• Maintain or develop new project drawing files for all related drawings in accordance with company standards and procedures.
• Collaborate with Geotechnical, Civil, and Geologic engineers and designers.

This position will support a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects involving geotechnical and civil engineering.

Working under the guidance of a Senior Engineer, you will assist with engineering analysis, design development, drafting, technical evaluations, and project implementation. Qualifications

Specific Knowledge & Skills:

• Soils, concrete, and asphalt knowledge and materials experience
• Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil3D Design software
• MS Excel Spreadsheet software
• MS Word Processing software
• GIS software is a plus

Education and/or Experience:

Civil Engineering or a master's with a focus in geotechnical engineering

• 1-4 years of experience is a plus
• EIT working towards a PE license

Requirement: Must be able to come into the office 100% in Nevada City, CA

The pay range for this California position is $30.00 - $45.00 per hour. Base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and location of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
