Job summary

Cepheid, a Danaher operating company, seeks a Staff Electrical and Machine Safety Engineer to provide technical leadership for electrical design, machine safety, and European conformity of manufacturing equipment in Newark, CA. This role is on-site and supports high-volume production of diagnostic disposables.

You will design, test, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems, lead risk assessments, and coordinate EU conformity activities with Field Evaluation Bodies and other authorities.

Qualifications

• Experience applying ISO 12100 and ISO 13849-1 or IEC 62061 to define risk-reduction measures and verify safety functions.
• Hands-on design, commissioning, and troubleshooting of PLC-based electrical control systems and safety circuits in automated settings.
• Leading machine safety risk assessments, field labeling or European conformity activities with cross-functional teams.
• Academic background aligned with electrical design or industrial automation as stated in the degrees.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical and machine safety activities for new and modified manufacturing equipment.
• Define design requirements and provide technical direction through build, commissioning, and installation.
• Coordinate field labeling and European conformity with assessment bodies.
• Design, test, and troubleshoot electrical control systems and power distribution in a high-volume environment.
• Develop and implement safety standardization across equipment platforms.
