Job Description

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Minneapolis offices. This role involves working with a multidisciplinary team to develop electrical substation designs that ensure the safe and reliable delivery of electricity across the U.S. and Canada. Responsibilities include:

• Addressing complex challenges faced by major utilities in North America through creative solutions.
• Designing substation physical layouts, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, raceways, power systems, and preparing bills of material.
• Designing protection and control systems, including panel arrangements, schematics, wiring, and relay panels.
• Leading quality reviews of substation designs.
• Preparing equipment specifications and supporting field inspections and compliance documentation.
• Leading projects and presenting designs to clients and stakeholders.
• Engaging with clients, contractors, and vendors, and participating in proposal efforts.
• Potential to advance into leadership roles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Strong preference for successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
• At least 3 years of substation electrical engineering experience, consulting experience preferred. A Master’s degree can substitute for one year of experience.
• Ability to work analytically in a dynamic environment with critical thinking skills.
• Proficiency with National Electrical Safety Code, IEEE, and ANSI standards.
• Excellent communication skills and computer proficiency (e.g., Mathcad, WinIGS, Microsoft Office).

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $110,000 - $155,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include insurance, disability, time off, wellness programs, and participation in our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) and 401(k).

Additional Details
