Job summary

Intuitive Surgical, Inc. is seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer to contribute to complex mixed-signal designs for next-generation robotic surgical systems.

You will work with Electrical, Firmware, Software, and Mechanical engineers to develop production-ready designs for Intuitive products. Responsibilities include leading cross-functional projects, advancing designs from schematic to production, and mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of board design experience (or 10 years with Master's and 7 years with PhD).
• Mixed signal board level PCA/PCB design.
• Experience implementing mechatronics circuits or other motor control.
• Familiarity with designing point of load power regulation and switched mode power supplies alongside sensitive analog circuits.
• Ability to lead departmental and cross-functional projects and teams.
• Proven debug skills.
• Design for electromagnetic compliance (EMC).
• Transmission line theory and signal integrity.
• Familiarity with cables, connectors, PCB materials, and mechanical assemblies.
• Demonstrated ability to lead discussions with senior stakeholders on technical decisions.
• Strong communication skills.
• Fluent in OrCAD and Allegro schematic and layout software (or equivalent).
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g. JavaScript, Python, etc.) or embedded C.
• Some experience with Verilog and FPGA design flows.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate in a cross-functional team to develop requirements and specifications for new designs.
• Implement detailed designs in schematic form and see design through layout.
• Collaborate with Firmware and Software engineering to bring-up designs and test functionality.
• Solicit feedback and implement iterative improvements on designs based on DFM/DFA/DFT, serviceability, reliability, longevity, and performance.
• Develop and execute test protocols and verify designs meet requirements and specifications.
• Collaborate with NPI and other engineering functions to transition designs into production.
• Contribute towards system level design decisions.
• Act as a technical lead within the group and mentor more junior members.
