Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer to support our Armament Systems Business located in Plymouth, MN.
Position Summary:
This position is for a Staff level Electrical Engineer with a broad background and wide interests whose expertise can be applied to the development of cutting-edge military programs. Responsibilities include:
Leads electrical design projects of significant complexity.
Performs research, design, and development in areas such as power conditioning electronics, analog circuit design, digital circuit design, FPGA/ASIC design and verification, and other general electrical engineering design functions.
Applies research to the planning, design, development, simulation and testing of electrical circuits for military applications.
Generates design schematics preferably with experience using CAD tools such as Mentor Graphics.
Develops specifications for and performs selection of components for use in electrical circuits for military applications.
Utilizes electrical CAD tools such as Mentor System Vision, Power Intent, Hyperlynx, LTspice and others for circuit performance prediction in aid of circuit development.
Oversees board layout to create PWB designs and provides pertinent design factors for first pass success on circuit realization.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to organize and prioritize job assignments and tasks.
Possess strong interpersonal skills to work effectively within a product development team to understand system level interdependencies that impact circuit requirements and design constraints.
An active learner of new design techniques and technologies.
Preferably an understanding of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) disciplines; including design for assembly / design for manufacturing (DFA/DFM).
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or STEM discipline, plus 12 years of experience in the design, build, and validation of electrical circuits; Or Master’s degree plus 10 years of experience; or PhD plus 8 years of experience.
Must be a US citizen.
Ability to obtain Government Secret clearance after hiring.
Solid understanding of electronic product development processes.
Experience creating and modeling electrical schematics, evaluate design robustness by simulation and lab testing. Using electronic design schematic capture and simulation tools.
Experience in technical leadership of a complex program requiring coordination of engineering work.
Wide range of design experience in analog and digital electronics in leading-edge product development projects.
Experience troubleshooting analog, digital and mixed signal circuits at the board and system levels.
Ability to evaluate and select components that meet the applicable requirements.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to cross-functional team members.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, rapidly changing, short turn-around environment.
Position may require occasional travel to meet with various customers, in both government and industry, and to interface with suppliers.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Mentor Graphics design and simulation tools.
Printer Wiring Board layout and design experience. Knowledge on PWB manufacturing processes is preferred.
Understanding of Six Sigma principles including design for manufacturing, assembly and test.
Experience in power electronics (regulators, power conditioning circuits, DC/DC converters).
Understanding of RF fundamentals (e.g., signal paths, impedance matching, filtering).
Experience in developing high reliability electronics to meet military environments.
Familiarity with high reliability design for military application.
Salary Range: $131,000 - $196,700
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
