Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Electrical & Embedded Systems Designer to lead the design and development of advanced electrical and embedded systems for high-performance robotic platforms. This role spans schematic design, PCB layout, electrical simulation, and real-time firmware development, with a strong emphasis on reliability, performance, and compliance with military-grade standards.

The ideal candidate will contribute across both power and embedded domains, working closely with mechanical and software teams to deliver robust electromechanical systems. You will also play a key role in developing and optimizing embedded software for real-time control in highly dynamic robotic environments.

What You’ll Do

Electrical System Design & Development

  • Design detailed electrical schematics and PCB layouts for embedded and power electronics used in autonomous systems and robotic systems.
  • Ensure designs meet performance, durability, and environmental requirements for harsh operating conditions.

Embedded Software Development

  • Design and implement real-time embedded software in C++ (with supporting Python tooling) for autonomous and defense applications.
  • Optimize firmware for responsiveness, reliability, and efficient resource usage on constrained hardware platforms.

Simulation, Testing & Validation

  • Perform electrical simulations for signal integrity, thermal performance, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
  • Lead lab and field testing efforts, debugging and validating electronics and firmware against operational and military standards.

Electromechanical Integration

  • Collaborate with mechanical and software engineers to integrate electronics with sensors, motors, actuators, and structural components.
  • Ensure seamless interaction between electrical, mechanical, and software subsystems.
  • Lead PCB development efforts, applying best practices in layout, power distribution, signal integrity, and EMC compliance.
  • Review and refine designs to ensure manufacturability and long-term reliability.

Documentation

  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including schematics, PCB layouts, simulation results, test plans, and validation reports.

Performance & Power Optimization

  • Continuously improve system efficiency by reducing power consumption and optimizing firmware and hardware performance.

What You’ll Need

Experience & Education

  • 5+ years of experience in electrical and embedded firmware design.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field from a top engineering school.

Electrical & Embedded Design

  • Strong background in microcontroller-based systems, including power conversion and motor control.
  • Extensive experience with schematic capture and PCB layout using tools such as Altium Designer, OrCAD, or Eagle.
  • Proficiency with simulation tools (e.g., SPICE, ANSYS Electronics) for analyzing circuit behavior under environmental and operational stress.

Embedded Software Expertise

  • 5+ years of embedded software development experience, focused on real-time and safety-critical systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in C++ for embedded systems and working knowledge of Python for scripting and development.

Integration & Testing

  • Proven experience integrating electronics with mechanical systems.
  • Strong hands-on background with electrical testing, validation equipment, and test methodologies aligned with military standards.
  • Ability to integrate software with sensors, actuators, and control hardware.

You’ll Stand Out If You Have

  • Expertise in thermal management and heat dissipation for high-power electronic systems.
  • Experience with embedded Linux and RTOS environments, including custom kernel development.
  • Knowledge of networking and communication protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, CAN, UART, and I2C.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize embedded systems for low latency, high performance, and strict power constraints.
