Job summary

Condé Nast’s WIRED is seeking a Staff Editor to join our newsroom in San Francisco or New York. You will edit a variety of stories from breaking ransomware to embargoed biotech, coordinating with science, politics, and security desks and translating content for WIRED’s international partners.

You’ll guide editorial direction, structure arguments, and push for ambitious, impactful coverage across a broad range of topics while collaborating with video for cross-platform distribution.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience as an editor in a fast paced, digital and news-driven environment.
• Experience covering the tech industry, cybersecurity, science, or related WIRED areas, including breaking news.
• Experience overseeing multi-platform content from brainstorm to execution.
• Experience and passion for delivering big, ambitious coverage, particularly around Big Tech, climate, and core areas.
• Highly collaborative with excellent communication skills; adept at working with a diverse team of editors and producers.
• Excellent time management and prioritization skills.

Responsibilities

• Edit stories from across the WIRED newsroom.
• Edit stories syndicated from WIRED's international brands to align with editorial style and standards.
• Work with external partners to identify stories for syndication and bring through production.
• Collaborate with WIRED's desks and video team for cross-platform coverage.
• Proactively seek out diverse voices to deliver differentiated business coverage.
• Coordinate with other WIRED teams on all aspects of the story process and visuals.
• Contribute to brand extensions, social platforms, and additional projects as needed.
• Represent the brand publicly on social media, in press opportunities, panels, and internal presentations.
• Execute additional projects or stories as assigned.
