Job summary

WIRED is seeking a Staff Editor to join our newsroom in a role reporting to the senior director of science, politics, and security. You will edit stories from multiple desks and manage international syndications, while guiding translated pieces through our production process.

You will prioritize ambitious, impactful work, edit for clarity, and help shape the wider significance of new developments across a broad range of topics. The role emphasizes collaboration and strong storytelling skills.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of editor experience in a fast-paced digital newsroom.
• Portfolio showing coverage in tech, cybersecurity, science or related core WIRED areas.
• Experience overseeing multi-platform content from brainstorming to execution.
• Experience delivering ambitious coverage on Big Tech, climate, and related focus areas.
• Strong collaboration and communication across diverse teams.

Responsibilities

• Edit stories from across the WIRED newsroom based on need.
• Edit syndicated stories from WIRED’s international brands for editorial consistency.
• Coordinate with external partners to identify and syndicate stories through production.
• Collaborate with WIRED’s director and various desks on tasks to elevate coverage, including FOIA requests and coordinating with freelancers.
• Seek diverse voices to strengthen differentiated business coverage.
• Coordinate with photo/art, fact-checking, copy queries, and production processes; align with social/video for impact.
• Contribute to brand extensions and cross-platform projects as needed.
• Represent the WIRED brand publicly in social media, press opportunities, panels, and internal presentations.
