Job summary

Elizabeth Care Center is seeking an experienced Staff Development Registered Nurse to support education, onboarding, and ongoing professional development for our nursing team.

The RN will coordinate orientation, deliver in-services, assess competencies, and partner with leadership to ensure compliance with standards and CMS requirements.

Job Overview

Elizabeth Care Center is seeking an experienced and engaging Staff Development Registered Nurse (RN) to support the education, onboarding, competency, and continued development of our nursing team.

The Staff Development RN plays an important role in building a strong clinical workforce by coordinating orientation, providing ongoing education, evaluating staff competencies, and helping ensure nursing practices remain consistent with facility standards and regulatory requirements. This role is ideal for an RN who enjoys teaching, coaching, and helping other healthcare professionals succeed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate nursing orientation and onboarding for newly hired RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and other clinical staff.
  • Develop and provide ongoing staff education, in-services, and skills training.
  • Assess clinical competencies and identify opportunities for additional education or coaching.
  • Maintain required education, competency, certification, and training records.
  • Partner with nursing leadership to identify training needs based on resident outcomes, audits, incidents, regulatory requirements, and performance trends.
  • Provide coaching and hands-on clinical support to nursing staff.
  • Educate staff on infection prevention, resident safety, documentation, policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Support annual and regulatory-required education and competency programs.
  • Assist with implementation and education related to new clinical processes, policies, and initiatives.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and resident-centered care.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for nursing team members.

Requirements

  • Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia.
  • Current CPR certification or ability to obtain within the required timeframe.
  • Previous nursing experience; skilled nursing or long-term care experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous staff development, education, preceptor, supervisory, or nursing leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and ability to teach and demonstrate nursing skills.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable CMS requirements, infection prevention, documentation, and long-term care standards preferred.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with nursing leadership and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Comfortable presenting education to individuals and groups and providing constructive feedback.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including prolonged standing and walking, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting or assisting with up to 50 pounds.
