Full and Part-Time Positions Available

POSITION SUMMARY

A full time or part time, exempt position responsible for providing preventive and primary dental care consistent with the dentist’s training and experience in a community health center setting to patients of the center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions:

  1. Examines individuals requesting care, diagnoses dental conditions, prescribes and carries out, or directs others in carrying out, appropriate dental treatment, or refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines.
  2. Records patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the patient’s dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided. In addition, the dentist shall complete patient referrals and other records and paperwork as shall be required from time to time by the corporation.
  3. Educates individuals in the nature of health-related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health-related disease prevention.
  4. Assists in the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training, and the orientation of community health center staff as requested.
  5. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Dental Director as necessary to achieve organizational goals and program objectives.
  6. Maintains and updates skills and knowledge to appropriate professional levels with continuing education courses and educational materials.
  7. Responsible for personal and professional compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and center rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and the clinical provision of dental care as well as those relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, workplace safety, public health, and confidentiality.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Competencies:

  1. Fully participates and cooperates with SCHS’ compliance program.
  2. Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.
  3. Maintains regulatory requirements.
  4. Completes annual educational requirements.
  5. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  6. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; excellent attendance record.
  7. Wears identification when on duty; uses the computerized punch time system correctly.
  8. Completes off-site in-services as required and returns in a timely fashion.
  9. Attends annual review and departmental in-services, as scheduled.
  10. Attends scheduled staff meetings; reads and returns all monthly staff meeting minutes.
  11. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  12. Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  13. Communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the facility.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Graduation from an accredited dental school.

Licensure/Certification/Experience:

  1. Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of Louisiana.
  2. Current CPR certification.
  3. Louisiana CDS and DEA Registration required.

Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). EMR experience preferred.
