GitHub, Inc. is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer for the Database Infrastructure team. The role focuses on reliability and scalability of the GitHub database fleet, handling terabytes of data and millions of queries per second across both self-managed and cloud-managed environments.

The ideal candidate will design, implement, and operate replication, failover, and capacity planning while collaborating with distributed teams. Remote work within the United States is supported.

Formación

• 9+ years experience in Software Engineering, CS, or related field with production software coding in listed languages.
• Associate’s Degree plus 8+ years in software engineering with coding experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree plus 7+ years in software engineering with coding experience.
• Master’s Degree plus 5+ years in software engineering with coding experience.
• Doctorate plus 3+ years in software engineering with coding experience.
• Equivalent experience in lieu of degrees.

Responsabilidades

• Design and build core components of GitHub's database platform across self-managed and cloud-managed infrastructure
• Be a subject matter expert on database internals and database administration
• Collaborate with engineering teams to support their use of databases and participate in design reviews
• Operate replication topology, failover automation, backups, and related tooling
• Manage kernel tuning, storage config, and compute/disk SKU selection to meet throughput and durability targets
• Contribute to capacity planning and migrations to new VM/disk generations
• Participate in on-call rotation and respond to incidents
• Contribute to fleet evolution onto Azure
