Job summary

Pinterest is seeking a senior data scientist to shape the Notifications experience, partnering with product, engineering and ML leadership. You will build measurement frameworks, drive data-driven decisions, and mentor other scientists while advancing ML models for delivery and content.

The role emphasizes collaboration, rigorous analyses, and the ability to convert vague questions into actionable insights that impact growth and user experience across web-scale data.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of combined post-graduate academic and industry experience applying scientific methods to solve real-world problems on web-scale data.
• Strong background in statistics, machine learning, and/or experimentation.
• Expertise in at least one scripting language (ideally Python/R).
• Proficiency in SQL/Hive.
• Strong business and product sense: delight in shaping vague questions into well-defined analyses and success metrics that drive business decisions.
• Excellent communication skills: able to lead initiatives across multiple product areas and communicate findings with leadership and product teams through compelling data narratives.
• Experience working closely with cross-functional teams, iterating on a user product via A/B experimentation.
• Experience leading key technical projects and substantially influencing the scope and output of others.
• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop measurement frameworks and metrics to drive data-driven decision making, optimizing the full user journey and notifications strategy.
• Be a thought partner to product, engineering, and ML leadership to prioritize projects and inform the notifications user experience and ML systems.
• Improve machine learning models powering notifications delivery and content through new features or analyses.
• Mentor the scope of work for other data scientists and ensure high-quality output.
