Job summary

Stripe is seeking a Staff Software Engineer in Seattle to lead the Data Foundations team focused on data quality and governance. You will guide engineers, build scalable data discovery and catalog platforms, and ensure trustworthy datasets for Stripe and its customers.

You will collaborate across product and engineering to deliver high-impact data initiatives while maintaining rigorous quality standards and a culture of inclusion.

Qualifications

• Staff-level role with 10+ years building and operating data systems, pipelines, warehouses, and leading teams.
• Strong distributed systems fundamentals are essential as the core services are high-availability infrastructure.
• Knowledge of a backend development language (Scala, Java, or Go) and strong SQL experience.
• Extreme customer focus, partnering with product, leaders across the business, and other Stripe engineers.
• Effective cross-functional collaboration, with clear communication and rigor in decision-making.
• Thrive with high autonomy and responsibility in an ambiguous environment.
• Ability to foster a healthy, inclusive, challenging, and supportive work environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical outcomes for a team of engineers, providing mentorship and guidance.
• Build and operate large-scale data discovery, metadata, or catalog platform.
• Develop subject matter expertise and manage SLAs of data pipelines and full stack web applications.
• Collaborate with product managers and peers to create/improve canonical datasets and data warehouses; ensure trustworthy data.
• Leverage AI/LLM and Agents at scale to analyze data on ambiguous problems.
• Drive execution of key data initiatives from planning to delivery with high quality and timely completion.
• Foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement within the team.
