Job summary

Metriport, an open-source data intelligence platform, seeks a Staff Data Engineer in San Francisco for end-to-end ownership of the data platform. You will design and operate scalable data pipelines powering real-time patient data access for healthcare organizations, balancing reliability, performance, and governance.

You will lead a team of engineers, shape the data stack, and collaborate with AI/ML teams to enable advanced analytics, while maintaining hands-on coding in TypeScript and Python.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of engineering experience building and scaling data platforms.
• Experience designing data architectures end-to-end including ingestion, storage, processing, warehousing, and serving.
• Strong modern cloud-native data stack experience (Spark, Parquet/Iceberg/Delta, S3, Snowflake/BigQuery/Redshift, dbt, Airflow/Dagster, Kafka/Kinesis).
• Solid software engineering fundamentals; production code in TypeScript and Python.
• Experience mentoring engineers and guiding designs.
• Located in San Francisco Bay Area or willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture and evolution of the data platform powering the product.
• Set technical direction for data platform, evolving warehouse, data lake, ETL/ELT, and tooling.
• Lead end-to-end data projects from design through v1 delivery.
• Support AI/ML efforts by ensuring data availability.
• Mentor engineers, review designs/PRs, and balance quality with speed.
• Act as Team Lead, manage delivery, and participate in sprint planning and on-call rotation.
• Contribute to roadmap and participate in daily stand-ups.
