Job summary

Metriport, a data intelligence platform for healthcare, seeks a Senior Data Engineer in the San Francisco area. You will scale our data platform, build pipelines, and own end-to-end data delivery to customers, while collaborating with AI/ML teams and ensuring data reliability and governance.

You'll design and optimize ETL/ELT architectures, evaluate tools, mentor engineers, and participate in sprint planning.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of engineering experience focused on data pipelines and large-scale data processing.
• Experience across the data stack and understanding tradeoffs at each layer (ingestion, storage, processing, warehousing, serving).
• Experience with cloud-native data stacks (Spark, Parquet/Iceberg/Delta on S3) and data warehouses (Snowflake/BigQuery/Redshift).
• Strong software fundamentals in TypeScript and Python for data/ML workflows.
• Experience mentoring engineers through code reviews, pairing, and onboarding.
• Located in San Francisco Bay Area or willing to relocate.
• Bonus: streaming systems (Kafka/Kinesis), dbt, Airflow; healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7).

Responsibilities

• Scale our data platform by improving warehouse, data lake, and ETL/ELT architectures to handle growth.
• Drive data projects end-to-end from design docs to v1 releases.
• Support AI/ML efforts by providing reliable data inputs.
• Mentor engineers on data fundamentals and review designs/PRs.
• Participate in sprint planning, standups, and on-call rotation.
• Example projects: scale patient data consolidation pipelines and deliver data into customer warehouses.
