Job summary

Owner.com is seeking a Staff Database Engineer to help product teams store and access data at scale. You will be the go-to person for database decisions, drive migrations, and build platform primitives for product engineers.

This 100% remote role can be based anywhere in the United States or Canada, or anywhere in Mexico or Colombia, with collaboration across Product Engineering and Platform/Infrastructure teams.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with databases inside the product, owning OLTP access patterns, indexing, query optimization, and schema design.
• Experience writing production code in the product stack and reasoning at the database layer.
• Deep PostgreSQL expertise in high-volume production; migration experience is a strong plus.
• Strong skills in schema design, indexing, and zero-downtime migrations on live tables.
• Experience scaling systems with large data and traffic, understanding access patterns at scale.
• Proven software engineering ability, not just SQL.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; strong ownership and collaboration.
• Builder mentality with a proactive approach to solving problems.

Responsibilities

• Lead migrations of product workloads and establish a data-storage home for teams.
• Provide clear database design guidance to product engineers.
• Build reusable data primitives, ORM patterns, and access-pattern reviews.
• Expand the data platform to include caching, search, and event streaming.
