Job summary

MyFitnessPal is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to join our Data Engineering team. You’ll design, build, and maintain high-throughput data services and pipelines using Python, Airflow, and Snowflake, enabling reliable analytics and product insights at scale.

The role emphasizes DataOps practices, data modeling, CI/CD, testing, and governance, with mentorship of engineers and collaboration across product and infrastructure teams.

Qualifications

• 8–12+ years in engineering roles, including 3–5+ years in data engineering at senior level
• Extensive experience with Snowflake or similar data stores
• Experience with distributed and non-distributed data stores (RDS, MySQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis, S3)
• Advanced SQL and performance tuning for large-scale datasets
• Experience with Airflow or similar orchestration tools
• Proficient in Python and high-throughput service design
• Experience with CDC and distributed event streaming (Kafka)
• Familiarity with API design patterns (REST, SOAP) and DataOps practices
• Observability, monitoring, and alerting implementations
• Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
• Experience driving AI-assisted development workflows
• Ability to define engineering standards and cost-conscious ownership

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high-throughput data services and pipelines
• Architect and evolve core platform components for scalable pipelines
• Collaborate on DataOps practices, CI/CD, testing, and validation
• Define and evangelize data engineering standards across the org
• Mentor engineers and drive architectural alignment
• Lead cross-functional initiatives spanning infra, data services, and observability
• Collaborate with product and engineering to solve complex data challenges
• Develop secure, governed data systems with RBAC and lifecycle management
