Job summary

Opiniion is seeking a Staff Data Architect to own the architecture of our data platform end to end, spanning ingestion, modeling, governance and analytics. As we scale, you will help build a data foundation capable of supporting advanced analytical models while balancing the current data stack with a new platform.

You will partner with the Staff Software Architect to drive technical direction, design canonical data models, mentor engineers, and evaluate tools to ensure security and compliance

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in data engineering or data architecture.
• 7+ years in an architect or technical leadership capacity.
• Deep expertise in Databricks (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog) or Snowflake.
• Experience with ETL/ELT tools and orchestration (dbt, Airflow, Fivetran).
• Proficiency in SQL and Python, with Spark/PySpark.
• Experience designing data governance and BI data layers.
• Familiarity with BI and semantic tools (Omni, Looker, Tableau).
• Cloud infrastructure knowledge (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Exposure to AI/ML data readiness: feature pipelines, vector stores, or RAG data architectures.
• Excellent communication skills and bias for action.
• Comfort co-owning technical direction with peer architects.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture of the data platform across ingestion, transformation, storage, and semantic/BI layers.
• Partner with the Staff Software Architect to drive the architecture and rollout of the new platform.
• Balance legacy data platform with the new one during the transition.
• Architect data foundations to scale with growing data volume and analytics demand.
• Own canonical data models, schema design, and data architecture standards across the platform.
• Design statistical models to support deeper analytics.
• Lead platform decisions across the data stack (Databricks).
• Architect governed, reusable data pipelines feeding BI tools like Omni and downstream AI/ML use cases.
• Establish data quality, governance, and lineage practices across the organization.
• Collaborate with engineering leadership and stakeholders to translate analytics needs.
• Mentor data engineers through reviews and documentation.
• Evaluate data tools and platform investments; build vs. buy decisions.
• Support AI/ML initiatives with robust data foundations.
