Job summary

General Motors seeks a senior embedded software engineer to shape the OS foundation for GM's software-defined vehicles. You will lead hypervisor integration, VM partitioning, and guest OS enablement across Yocto, Linux, Android, and QNX.

You will drive bootchains, platform services, and container workloads with a focus on safety and determinism. You will mentor teams, perform root-cause analysis, and advance CI/CD and HIL automation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Ten or more years in embedded, systems, or kernel-level software in automotive or complex embedded domains.
• Deep expertise in OS-level software on Arm SoCs and related areas such as hypervisor integration, RTOS, Linux kernel subsystems, bootloaders, and Yocto-based builds.
• Strong debugging, performance optimization, and cross-domain root-cause analysis skills.

Responsibilities

• Own hypervisor and VM capabilities including definitions, partitioning, device passthrough, and virtio models.
• Design and optimize VM-to-VM communication with shared memory and virtual I/O for throughput and determinism.
• Enable guest OSs across embedded Linux, Yocto distributions, Android, and QNX with platform services and tooling.
• Implement and optimize boot and secure-boot across partitions with startup sequencing and integrity checks.
• Build platform services for health, fault detection, and resource governance while meeting safety requirements.
• Develop container-runtime/workload-management for in-vehicle apps including isolation and updates.
• Profile and debug CPU/memory/IO across the stack; lead root-cause analysis with traces and low-level tools.
• Improve CI/CD, bench/HIL automation, and code reviews; mentor cross-team engineers.
