Digital Dynamics Inc. in Scotts Valley, CA is seeking a Staff Component Engineer to drive selection, qualification, and lifecycle management of electronic, electrical, and mechanical parts for our embedded control systems.

You will collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and suppliers to ensure long-term availability, compliance, and cost efficiency while maintaining accurate BOMs and AVL. This role emphasizes reliability and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years in component engineering, electrical engineering, or supply chain engineering.
  • Experience managing lifecycle, obsolescence, and supplier relationships.
  • Knowledge of BOM, PLM/ERP systems, and EOL mitigation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage component selection, qualification, and approval for new and existing designs.
  • Monitor lifecycle status and identify obsolescence risks early.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain to resolve shortages and sourcing challenges.
  • Maintain component libraries and approved manufacturer lists.
  • Support ECOs, investigations, and corrective actions for component issues.
  • Ensure RoHS/REACH compliance and reliability across programs.

All products are designed and built at our facilities in beautiful Scotts Valley, CA.Position SummaryThe Staff Component Engineer manages the selection, qualification, and lifecycle of electronic, electrical, and mechanical components used across DDI’s embedded control systems. The role centers on ensuring long-term component availability, reliability, compliance, and sustainability throughout the product lifecycle.Working closely with Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, and suppliers, this position supports new designs, maintains continuity for existing products, and ensures all components meet performance, reliability, and compliance expectations.Key ResponsibilitiesManage component selection, qualification, and approval for new and existing designsMonitor lifecycle status and identify obsolescence risks earlyDevelop mitigation plans for end-of-life components and qualify alternatesCollaborate with Supply Chain to resolve shortages, allocations, and sourcing challengesWork directly with suppliers to obtain technical data, lifecycle information, and qualification documentationProvide technical guidance during design reviews and NPI activitiesMaintain component libraries, AVL, and engineering databasesSupport failure analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective actions for component-related issuesEnsure compliance with RoHS, REACH, Conflict Minerals, and customer requirementsSupport ECOs involving component substitutions or updatesMaintain accurate BOMs, approved manufacturer lists, and engineering documentationIdentify cost reduction opportunities while maintaining reliability and performanceContribute to continuous improvement of component engineering processes and standardsQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field5+ years of experience in Component Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Supply Chain Engineering, or related disciplineExperience managing component lifecycle, obsolescence, and supplier relationshipsKnowledge of electronic, electrical, and electromechanical componentsExperience with BOM management, ECO processes, and PLM or ERP systemsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to collaborate effectively with Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Quality teamsExperience in semiconductor equipment, industrial automation, or other high-reliability systems is a plusOur Total Rewards PhilosophyWe believe rewarding employees extends beyond base compensation.
