Job summary

Metropolitan State University of Denver is seeking a staff clinician for the Counseling Center to provide direct mental health services to enrolled students and lead outreach initiatives.

This full-time, 12-month position requires licensure in Colorado (LCSW or LP) or eligibility, a 40-hour work week, and collaboration with the Executive Director and staff to reduce stigma and expand campus access.

Department Counseling Center Office Position Summary

This staff clinician position is a full-time, 12-month, role that is independently licensed as a Psychologist or as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the primary responsibility of providing mental health services to currently enrolled students. The position will report to the Executive Director of the Counseling Center. In addition to carrying a clinical caseload, the Coordinator of Outreach Services (COS) is a staff clinician who serves an additional specialized role in partnering with the Executive Director and the administrative team to enhance campus visibility of the Counseling Center as an important resource and coordinating efforts to provide stigma reduction and educational programs across campus. IND208 Duties/Responsibilities

60% - Direct Provision of Clinical Services/Training

• Provide short term, goal focused, clinical services to students, including initial screenings, walk-ins, triage, intakes, individual counseling, group therapy, crisis interventions, and consultation services at the highest legal and ethical levels.
• Support the Counseling Center training program in all areas with education and expertise, including providing seminars, workshops, consultation, and clinical supervision to graduate student trainees.
• Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation of all service contacts as required by center policies and procedures and abide by professional standards, state law, and confidentiality guidelines.
• Works collaboratively and cooperatively with other mental health professionals on Counseling Center’s multidisciplinary staff and other university departments and organizations.

25% - Outreach, Facilitatorship, and Indirect Services

• Support the Counseling Center’s Outreach Program by providing stigma reduction/educational outreach programs to students/staff/faculty.
• Support Counseling Center departmental goals and initiatives, including campus suicide prevention training.
• Attend and contribute to team meetings, outreach events, committee work, and all center-related endeavors.
• When available, participate in national conferences, organization memberships, and listservs to stay current on best practices in university counseling centers.
• Serves on internal and university-wide committees, work teams, and task forces, in keeping with areas of expertise, interest, and needs of the counseling center.
• Initiates and maintains professional liaison relationships with faculty and staff to enhance outreach efforts to the traditionally under-served students on campus.
• Annual facilitator leadership role supporting the counseling center in a variety of ways that both help the center and develop staff expertise – may rotate annually. (e.g. diversity conference chair, trauma intervention task force, suicide prevention training, etc…)

10% - Additional management, facilitation, and leadership of Counseling Center outreach operations, policies, procedures, and record keeping in the role of Coordinator of Outreach

• Support the Counseling Center’s Outreach Program by providing leadership and coordination of stigma reduction/educational outreach programs to students/staff/faculty.
• Manage the outreach website, coordinate the receipt of outreach requests, and facilitate the delivery of outreach programs for the Counseling Center by dispersing them among staff as appropriate. This includes oversight and leadership of annual screening events and any department signature events as well.
• Provide leadership and coordination of Counseling Center’s suicide prevention initiative, including campus suicide prevention training.
• Maintain records of outreach programs provided and number of contacts, supporting the monthly and annual reports of the Executive Director.
• Manage and further develop, Counseling Center social media account with the support of staff and appropriate committee.
• Support the development of trainees in the area of outreach.
• Assist in updating outreach materials and resources.

Required Qualifications

• Fully licensed as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or fully licensed as a Psychologist (LP) in Colorado (or another state with the ability to get Colorado license within one year).
• Will consider applicants if they are license-eligible as a psychologist, with requirement to become independently licensed within a 2-year period.
• Social workers must have an LCSW.
• Clinical experience in carrying a high case load.
• Clinical experience in assessing crises and risk.
• Experience and expertise in working with diverse populations.
• Experience in conducting outreach presentations.
• Experience with brief and short-term models of psychotherapy.

Preferred Qualifications

• Psychologist license is preferred [to support our doctoral internship training program in health service psychology].
• 4+ years of full-time professional clinical experience.
• Bi-lingual in Spanish
• Prior experience/leadership in a college counseling center.
• Experience with the clinical supervision of graduate trainees.

Work Hours

Full Time, 40 hours per week, Exempt Monday – Friday, 8am - 5pm Evenings and weekend work: Occasionally This is a 100% in-person role, however some Alternative Work Arrangements (AWA) may be available.

We anticipate the qualified candidate to be placed between $74,000 – $94,000. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
