Job summary

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems in Apopka, FL, has an immediate opportunity for a Staff Chief Engineer to lead engineering design, integration, test, and production of laser and optical systems for handheld, ground, and airborne products. The role balances interpersonal leadership with strong technical ability and requires self-starting collaboration across disciplines.

The candidate will direct cross-functional teams, manage budgets, interface with suppliers, and support proposal activities.

Qualifications

12+ years of relevant experience with a STEM degree; or 10+ years with a Master’s degree.
Experience as technical lead or IPT Lead.
Demonstrated leadership, decisiveness, and sound technical judgments.
Experience in systems development, integration, and test of complex EO/IR or electronic systems.
U.S. Citizenship with ability to obtain/maintain DoD Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

Lead cross-functional engineering teams through proposal, design, manufacturing, and delivery phases.
Develop and manage project budgets and schedules (EVMS, EACs, critical path).
Coordinate staffing with functional departments and suppliers.
Brief leadership on progress and milestones to customers and internal stakeholders.
Contribute to writing technical specs, SOWs, and design reviews; support capture/proposal activities.
Build relationships with customers and internal teams across sectors.
Lead or support technology roadmaps and IRAD projects.
