Summary of Job Duties: The Staff Chaplain Resident provides spiritual care and emotional support to patients, families, and staff within a healthcare setting as part of a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) residency program. Under supervision, engages in theological reflection, interdisciplinary collaboration, and pastoral skill development.

Qualifications:

  • A four-year undergraduate degree (BA or BS) from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
  • A seminary graduate degree (Master of Divinity, Theology, Counseling, or equivalent) from an accredited seminary or theological school, or a master's degree from an accredited organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Minimum of one unit (400 hours) of Clinical Pastoral Education Training is preferred.
  • A theological and psychological understanding of religious and human dynamics, medical ethics, and demonstrated pastoral counseling knowledge in healthcare; ecumenical outlook preferred.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide pastoral care including assessment, support, crisis intervention, grief support, sacramental ministry, worship, and ethics consultation.
  • Participate in care delivery, document assessments, and support worship and sacramental needs.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary team meetings and departmental activities.
  • Coordinate with community clergy and keep pastoral activity records.
  • Educate patients and faith communities on end-of-life issues and ethical healthcare topics.
  • Engage in action reflection learning and professional development activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical and Environmental Activity: Includes standing, sitting, walking, talking, touching, bending, crouching, kneeling, lifting (up to 10 lbs), and working inside a medical facility with moderate noise and potential dust hazards.

Salary: Commensurate with Education and Experience
