Job summary

UW Health in Madison is seeking a Staff Chaplain to provide spiritual care as part of the hospital team. You will assess patient spiritual practices and values and integrate these into the medical care plan.

You will convey spiritual needs to the interdisciplinary team and support patients and families as they navigate medical decisions within their beliefs. We are offering a full-time day shift with flexible options and a strong benefits package, including tuition assistance and opportunities

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Divinity or equivalent from CHEA-accredited school.
  • Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) in a hospital setting.
  • Completion of a 1-year CPE Residency Program in a hospital setting (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Create assessment of patient's spiritual practices/values and integrate into care plan.
  • Communicate spiritual needs to the interdisciplinary care team as appropriate.
  • Support patient/family as they work through medical decisions within spiritual framework.
  • Consult with other chaplains to support the care team.

Job description

Work Schedule

Full-time, 100% FTE, day shift. Monday - Friday 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. No weekend rotation required. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.

Offer spiritual care services to patients and families using theological and clinical training to help patients and families cope more effectively.

We are seeking a Staff Chaplain to:

  • Create an assessment of the patient's spiritual practices/values and accommodates and integrates these values into the patient's medical plan of care.
  • Communicate the patient's spiritual needs to the patient's interdisciplinary health care team as appropriate.
  • Support the patient/family as they integrate implications of the suggested medical treatment plan in the framework of their spiritual beliefs and as they work through difficult issues/challenges that may arise during hospitalization.
  • Consult with and provides guidance to other chaplains to appropriately support the interdisciplinary health care team.

Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Divinity or Master's level theological degree from a school accredited by a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) Required
  • Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) in a hospital setting Required
  • Completion of a 1-year CPE Residency Program in a hospital setting Preferred
Work Experience
  • 1 year hospital work experience post-CPE or two (2) years of other relevant spiritual or ministry experience Required
  • 2 years of work experience post-CPE in a Level 1 Trauma Center and/or children's hospital Preferred
Licenses & Certifications
  • Eligible for Board Certification by a recognized national body (APC, NAJC, etc.) within 2 Yrs Required
  • Board Certified Chaplain in good standing with a recognized national body (APC, NAJC, etc.) within 3 Yrs Required
  • Board Certified Chaplain in good standing with a recognized national body (APC, NAJC, etc.) Preferred
