Job summary

FOX is seeking a Staff Backend Software Engineer to lead reliable, scalable services for audio/video hosting, monetization, and analytics at a global footprint. You will work primarily in Python on APIs, asynchronous workflows, and data pipelines, coordinating with product, frontend, and infrastructure teams.

You will own API design, reliability, and observability, while driving Terraform/AWS changes and scalable architectures.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional backend engineering experience with ownership of large services.
• Strong Python and service-oriented design focusing on APIs and background jobs.
• Hands-on experience with Celery and message brokers (AMQP/RabbitMQ).
• Strong PostgreSQL and Redis usage for coordination and data storage.
• Cloud infrastructure experience with AWS and GCP; Terraform familiarity.
• Containerization with Docker, ECS, Kubernetes; multi-cloud networking.
• CI/CD in cloud environments; scalable, resilient deployments.
• Security-focused engineering: IAM, TLS, WAF, rate limiting, egress controls.
• RBAC/ABAC experience or policy engines is a plus.
• Startup/x fast-moving environment and cross-team influence.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement RESTful APIs and async workers for publishing, media processing, SSAI, and reporting.
• Ensure reliability and performance of distributed systems including queues, deduplication, and logging for incidents.
• Make data and integration decisions using PostgreSQL, Redis, and data warehouses.
• Lead Terraform and AWS changes affecting the application, including IAM and networking aspects.
• Improve observability with structured logging, Prometheus metrics, Grafana, and CloudWatch alarms.
• Define testing strategy and CI-ready checks; ensure operational readiness for migrations.
• Represent backend concerns in planning, design reviews, and incident discussions.
• Plan phased migrations and safer defaults for long-term maintainability.
