Job summary

FOX is seeking a Staff Backend Software Engineer to lead the delivery of scalable services for audio/video hosting, monetization, and analytics at global scale. You’ll primarily use Python on APIs, async workers, and data pipelines, coordinating with product, frontend, and infra engineers.

You will own reliability of distributed systems, contribute to Terraform/AWS, and advance observability with metrics and logging. Hybrid work and cross-team collaboration are encouraged.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend or backend-heavy engineering experience leading large services.
• Strong Python design of service-oriented systems including APIs and background jobs.
• Hands-on Celery and AMQP/RabbitMQ experience with reliability in distributed systems.
• Advanced PostgreSQL and Redis usage for coordination and concurrency control.
• Cloud infra with GCP/AWS and Terraform changes.
• Experience with containers (Docker, ECS) and multi-cloud networking.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of RESTful APIs and async workers (Celery) for publishing, media processing, SSAI and VAST workflows.
• Own reliability and performance of distributed systems and workloads with advanced queueing and logging.
• Drive data integration across PostgreSQL, Redis coordination, object storage, and data-warehouse reporting.
• Lead Terraform and AWS changes affecting the application including EB tiers, IAM, networking and observability hooks.
• Improve observability with structured logging, Prometheus metrics, Grafana, and CloudWatch alarms.
• Define and evolve testing strategy for critical paths and ensure operational readiness for migrations.
• Represent backend concerns in planning and design reviews and communicate trade-offs clearly.
• Plan phased migrations and safer defaults for long-term maintainability.
