Job summary

Swiftly is seeking a Staff Engineer with a strong backend focus to ship high‑quality code rapidly. You will architect and implement backend services, integrate new retailer partners, and drive scalable API ecosystems used by mobile and web clients.

You will balance cross‑functional collaboration with a hands‑on approach, owning design proposals, code reviews, tests, and on‑call incidents. This role requires extensive experience and excellent communication within a fast‑growing retail tech

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering or comparable industry experience.
• 10+ years of experience designing, building, and maintaining backend services.
• Proficiency with Ruby on Rails platforms.
• Experience with containerized services and git-based workflows.
• Strong experience with Ruby on Rails, Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, AWS IaC, and React.
• Experience with test-driven development and automated testing frameworks.
• Experience with Scrum, Agile, Kanban, or similar methodologies.
• Ability to balance priorities with solid business understanding.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and implement backend services for APIs used by mobile and web clients.
• Automate manual processes to streamline internal and external experiences and workflows.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to capture requirements.
• Configure, build, test, and deploy integration software solutions.
• Participate in code reviews and write technical design proposals.
• Write scalable tests, release plans, and end-user documentation.
• Diagnose and manage software integration issues.
• Deliver technical improvements and bug fixes.
• Work with support and business users to define requirements and propose solutions.
• Advise on standard integration design and development methodologies.
• On-call availability (about 10 days per month).
• Other related duties as assigned.
