Job summary

Toast is seeking a hands-on Staff Software Engineer for the Finance AI & Automation team within the Office of the CFO. You will transform AI prototypes into enterprise-grade backend microservices, data pipelines, and internal tools that streamline the finance stack.

You’ll bridge rapid AI innovation with robust systems, owning architecture and lightweight frontend surfaces used by finance teams to run automations safely.

Qualifications

• Proven track record as a Staff or senior-level engineer in distributed backend systems.
• Experience shipping Kotlin or JVM services on AWS.
• Practical experience productionizing LLM frameworks and agentic architectures.
• Strong background in enterprise integration patterns, message brokers, and distributed data stores.
• Deep data engineering instincts across SQL, warehousing, and data pipelines.
• Excellent technical writing translating architectural trade-offs for executives.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on execution and leadership, architecting and operating high-performance backend services in Kotlin/AWS.
• Productionize AI workflows into scalable, monitored microservices with audit trails.
• Build end-to-end internal tooling including backend APIs and lightweight UI surfaces for finance operators.
• Design resilient integrations across billing, ERP, Salesforce, data warehouses, and Toast services.
• Engineer for enterprise controls (SOX, PCI) from day one.
• Own end-to-end technical strategy and drive clean handoffs to core Toast platforms.
