Hinge Health is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Device Software team within Hardware R&D. You will own backend-heavy software powering connected device experiences, including device-control flows, telemetry, and clinical workflows, working across Python services and Next.js apps.

This staff-level IC role emphasizes broad technical impact, partnering with Product, Clinical, Regulatory, Hardware Engineering, Data, and Quality teams to deliver reliable, scalable software end-to-end

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience shipping production systems.
• Strong backend experience designing APIs and scalable services in microservice architectures.
• Strong Python production experience.
• Strong Next.js and TypeScript experience building modern web apps.
• Experience connecting backend services with mobile/web clients and device-adjacent software surfaces.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and AWS, Docker, Postgres, Redis, GraphQL.
• Experience debugging production issues, improving reliability, and strengthening observability.
• Demonstrated technical leadership through architectural influence, cross-functional collaboration, and mentoring other engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of backend-heavy, device-adjacent software systems powering connected device experiences.
• Own complex technical initiatives across Python services, Next.js apps, APIs, and integrations connecting device, app, and backend surfaces.
• Drive architecture and technical decision-making for scalable, maintainable systems spanning mobile, backend, device-control, and telemetry flows.
• Partner with engineering, product, design, hardware, clinical, and regulatory stakeholders to translate ambiguous requirements into pragmatic execution plans with clear tradeoffs.
• Build and improve the software foundations behind major Device Software initiatives, including deep link unlock, clinical research platform work, and OTA-related capabilities.
• Raise the technical bar for backend quality, observability, testability, and operational excellence in production environments.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, implementation guidance, debugging, and day-to-day technical leadership.
• Proactively identify platform gaps, technical debt, and workflow improvements to increase delivery speed and long-term maintainability.
