Grafana Labs is hiring a Staff Backend Engineer for Adaptive Telemetry in the Databases group. This remote role targets candidates in Canadian time zones. You will own and evolve telemetry storage across metrics, logs, traces, and profiles, balancing scalability with cost while guiding platform-wide decisions.

You’ll lead cross-functional delivery, set reliability targets, and mentor engineers, while ensuring high-quality implementation and collaboration with product teams.

Qualifications

• Proven delivery of large distributed systems.
• Strong systems-design instincts with focus on latency, availability and cost.
• Hands-on cloud and platform experience with modern AI-assisted tooling.

Responsibilities

• Drive technical strategy and roadmap for the Adaptive Telemetry group.
• Lead end-to-end delivery of large, cross-functional projects.
• Own architecture, reliability, performance and cost for critical systems.
• Define SLOs/SLIs and lead incident response.
• Improve observability, automation and operational readiness.
• Align stakeholders and unblock delivery for major initiatives.
• Mentor and grow engineering talent.
• Represent engineering in cross-team planning and communications.
