Job summary

State of North Carolina – Office of the State Auditor is seeking a Performance Staff Auditor II to assist in performance audits of state agencies, universities, and private contractors with NC contracts. Description of Work

This position is designated as Exempt Policy-Making under G.S. 126-5(c)(3) and is considered an at-will appointment. The Office of the State Auditor (OSA) is seeking a Performance Staff Auditor II to assist in performance audits conducted on state agencies, universities, colleges, licensing boards, state specific programs, and private companies that have contracts with the State of North Carolina. This position is designed to contribute to the completion of audits that improve performance, strengthen accountability, and enhance transparency of state government programs.

  • Work collaboratively to plan and conduct audits within a range of topics
  • Speak with auditees, agency management, and legislators to understand the programs being audited
  • Conduct on-site fieldwork, including gathering information and interviews, determining risks that impact the auditee, and identifying processes and controls that mitigate those risks
  • Review and analyze source records, programmatic data, and financial or program documentation and systems
  • Document the results of your work with any potential findings and recommendations included

Salary Range: $75,000-$85,000

Minimum Education and Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree with 12 semester hours in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and 2 years of experience in auditing/accounting or program evaluation OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
