Job summary

DC Bar, Washington, DC, seeks a Staff Attorney for the Board on Professional Responsibility to provide legal ethics guidance and support to board members and hearing committees. The role involves research, analysis, and drafting to support decisions on attorney discipline, with duties guiding both the Executive Attorney and support staff.

The position is full-time and hybrid, with in-office and remote work days.

Qualifications

JD from ABA accredited law school.
Must be a member in good standing of the District of Columbia Bar or eligible for admission.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365; Westlaw and electronic research.
Familiarity with the Bluebook; ability to cite accurately.
Strong written and oral communication on complex legal issues.

Responsibilities

Drafts research memoranda and provides advice to prepare Board and Hearing Committee members for oral arguments and hearings.
Assists in preparing Board and Hearing Committee reports, including legal research, proofreading and cite checking.
Assists in the review of motions and preparation of recommendations to Hearing Committee and Board members.
Maintains summaries of D.C. Court of Appeals opinions and Board Reports.
Obtains and forwards pertinent information including case summaries, memoranda and abstracts to Hearing Committee and Board members.
Maintains office research memoranda and files.
Assists with preparation for periodic Hearing Committee and Board trainings including training material.
Performs other duties as assigned.
