Job summary

Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of New York in New York, NY, is seeking a Temporary Staff Attorney to provide direct representation in removal proceedings and related immigration matters for NYC residents, focusing on unaccompanied children and youth.

The attorney will work in a large, diverse immigration and refugee services division, handling cases before EOIR, BIA, USCIS, and NYC family courts, with supervision and training responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor required.
• Admission to the NY Bar is required.
• At least one year of experience in family and/or immigration law, including clinical or pro bono experience, strongly preferred.
• Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred.
• Excellent writing, research, and analytical skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and in a team.
• Commitment to public interest law, particularly children’s issues and/or immigration.
• Ability to travel throughout the five boroughs and Archdiocese.

Responsibilities

• Conduct initial consultations and in-depth evaluation of eligibility for immigration benefits and/or relief from removal.
• Independently manage a full caseload under supervision, representing clients before USCIS and EOIR.
• Prepare memos and strategize case theory with supervising attorney; maintain case plans and timelines.
• Maintain dashboards, case files, and timely reporting to partners and stakeholders.
• Supervise paralegals, interns, and volunteers; provide trainings and outreach as directed.
