Job summary

HACLA in Los Angeles seeks a Staff Attorney to handle a steady caseload of eviction matters, provide day-to-day legal guidance to housing teams, and ensure compliance with Fair Housing and tenant protection laws. The role involves supervising staff, coordinating with external counsel, and delivering timely legal opinions.

California Bar admission is required; a valid California driver’s license is also necessary.

Qualifications

• Must be licensed to practice law in California.
• Member in good standing of the California State bar.
• Strong legal research and writing skills.
• Ability to lead and multi-task.

Responsibilities

• Manages own caseload including unlawful detainers from receipt to resolution.
• Oversees outside counsel for unlawful detainer services.
• Assists in developing policies related to unlawful detainer, Fair Housing, and Public Housing laws.
• Develops relations with HACLA staff, LAPD, and other agencies.
• Coordinates unlawful detainer activities with Legal Department staff and trains management.
• Prepares and presents reports on department activities.
