Job summary

Canal Alliance in San Rafael, CA seeks an Affine Unit Staff Attorney to manage an active caseload in humanitarian immigration matters, concentrating on affirmative cases, and provide legal representation before USCIS and EOIR.

The role requires a J.D. and bar admission, strong case management and research skills, and bilingual Spanish-English proficiency, with a commitment to trauma-informed, client-centered advocacy and collaboration with community partners.

Qualifications

• J.D. and a member in good standing of any state bar.
• Experience in immigration law preferred.
• Bilingual Spanish and English written and oral fluency.

Responsibilities

• Manage an assigned caseload including intakes, consultations, legal research, eligibility assessment, case strategy, RFEs, and filings to USCIS.
• Identify needs for FOIA requests and background checks; analyze results to shape strategy.
• Conduct file reviews to identify missing information, discrepancies, and legal issues.
• Collect, organize, and review supporting documentation for filings.
• Ensure timely completion of milestones and filing deadlines per procedures.
