Qualifications

• Educational background: J.D. from an ABA Accredited Law School.
• Experience: Prior litigation and landlord-tenant experience is a plus.
• Knowledge: Familiarity with NYC housing law and public benefits is advantageous.
• Skills: Excellent communication, research, organizational, and writing skills.
• Team Player: Strong team-building skills and ability to work independently.
• Passion: Commitment to public interest law and social justice.
• Language: Fluency in Spanish preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Counsel clients and assist them in maintaining their housing and securing needed support.
• Handle non-payment and holdover proceedings in court and represent tenants at trial.
• Conduct outreach and educational workshops to educate and empower tenants.
• Draft and prepare legal documents, motions, and agreements; assess merits of cases.

Key Responsibilities:

• Client Advocacy: Counsel clients and assist them in maintaining their housing, ensuring they receive the support they need.
• Court Representation: Handle non-payment and holdover proceedings in court, represent tenants at trial, and manage litigation before administrative agencies.
• Outreach & Education: Conduct workshops, trainings, and community outreach to educate and empower tenants.
• Legal Preparation: Draft and prepare legal documents, motions, and agreements, and assess the merits of cases assigned by the court or referred clients.

What We’re Looking For:

• Educational Background: J.D. from an ABA Accredited Law School.
