Want to make a difference with your law degree? Land of Lincoln Legal Aid seeks a motivated attorney to work in our Champaign office, directly assisting low-income individuals and seniors, and collaborating with community partners to address civil legal needs. The position serves residents of Champaign, DeWitt, Douglas, Ford, Piatt, and Vermilion counties, focusing on housing and debt collection issues. The attorney will also work with community partners in Champaign-Urbana to identify and address legal needs and foster community improvements.

Land of Lincoln Legal Aid provides free civil legal services across 65 Illinois counties. We are dedicated to justice for those whose voices are often unheard, empowering individuals to advocate for themselves, and collaborating with communities to create positive change. Our attorneys offer holistic legal advocacy in partnership with community organizations, social services, and faith-based groups.

The staff attorney will provide zealous representation in civil law areas such as housing, consumer issues, guardianships, and public benefits. Responsibilities include building relationships with community partners, conducting outreach and training, and addressing legal needs on individual and systemic levels.

Responsibilities Include

• Participate in community outreach and education
• Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations
• Listen to community members about legal needs and develop strategies to address them
• Handle litigation processes including client interviews, investigation, discovery, pleadings, and representation at hearings and appeals
• Supervise secretaries, law students, and other staff
• Perform other duties as assigned

Compensation

$75,000 - $100,000 depending on experience, with excellent insurance and retirement benefits.
