Job summary

HDR in Dallas, TX is seeking a Staff Archaeologist to assist in site testing and analysis on development projects involving archaeological resources, historic structures, tribal resources, and excavations. You will provide technical input for design options and deliverables and work with a team as needed.

The role requires travel to North Texas offices and client sites, independent work on small projects, and guidance to clerical staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History or closely related field.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Willingness to work under varied weather conditions.
  • Familiarity with field study design, regulatory framework for cultural resource management, and GIS utilities.
  • Active participation in employee-owned culture is a must.

Job description

Staff Archaeologist

Assist in site testing and conduct analysis on a variety of development projects involving archaeological resources, historic structures, tribal resources, and excavations. Provide technical expertise for design options, and assist in the preparation of service deliverable documents. Perform routine scientific assignments with standard techniques and procedures. Complete projects with clear, specified objectives and limited variables. Work independently on small projects or assist more senior scientists on larger projects. Give direction to clerical and technical personnel as needed. This position will require travel as needed to North Texas offices and client project sites. Perform other duties as needed.

Physical Requirements
  • Record cultural resources in the field without physical assistance (including hiking short distances in scrub and native vegetation).
  • Lifting up to 20 pounds without assistance.
  • Effective communication in person, by telephone, and email.
  • Work in minimally supervised or unsupervised environments.
  • Work hours other than 8 to 5, which may include weekends and/or night shifts.
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to operate a vehicle day or night.
  • Approximately 66% travel required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree.
  • Previous work experience in cultural resource projects.
