Job summary

The Mice Groups, Inc. is seeking a Staff Android Engineer to provide technical leadership across the Android platform. This role is highly hands-on, focusing on architecture, platform development, developer productivity, and emerging technologies.

You will spend about 80% of your time coding and 20% on design and architecture, building scalable architectures, and mentoring engineers. Remote-friendly with Pittsburgh-area candidates favored; ET hours alignment considered.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional Android development experience, including 3+ years in architectural/leadership roles.
• Deep expertise in Kotlin, including Coroutines and Flow.
• Strong experience with Jetpack Compose and legacy Android XML.
• Strong understanding of modern Android architecture and state management.
• Experience with Gradle Kotlin DSL and Android build systems.
• Experience on an Android platform, foundation, or developer tooling team is a plus.
• Experience building tools, libraries, SDKs, or reusable components for other developers.
• Experience implementing or integrating AI development workflows and tools.
• Experience with MCP servers or similar AI/agent integrations is highly desirable.
• Excellent communication skills and mentoring abilities.

Responsibilities

• Spend approximately 80% of your time coding and 20% on architecture and design.

• Build tools, libraries, and platform capabilities for other Android developers.
• Stay current with the latest Android technologies and practices.
• Drive technical decisions and determine best approaches.
• Evaluate new technologies, run proofs of concept and experiments.
• Review designs and guide complex engineering challenges.
• Shape long-term Android platform strategy and standards.
• Mentor senior engineers and lead by example.
• Create design documentation and communicate risks and tradeoffs.
