Job summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, AI Product Engineering to shape and build AI-powered software for tax and accounting professionals. You will join the CoCounsel for Tax & Accounting organization, working in a fast-moving, product-focused environment that combines startup-style ownership with the scale and resources of Thomson Reuters.

This hybrid role, with opportunities based in New York City, Minneapolis-St.

Qualifications

• Significant software engineering experience building and operating backend systems.
• Hands-on development with Python and backend frameworks.
• Experience designing APIs, data models, and distributed systems.
• Relational databases and cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Ownership of greenfield or 01 products from architecture to production.

Responsibilities

• Own greenfield AI systems from discovery to production launch.
• Design and build production backend services using Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and AWS.
• Develop AI-native applications with LLMs, agents, orchestration, retrieval, and real-time AI workflows.
• Integrate OpenAI, Anthropic, and other foundation models.
• Design scalable APIs, data models, and asynchronous workflows for high-volume AI apps.
• Lead architecture decisions across reliability, scalability, observability, security, and testing.
• Mentor engineers and drive architectural trade-offs across teams.
