Job summary

Uber Technologies Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the AI Foundations & Developer Experience (AIFX) team in Sunnyvale, CA. You will set technical direction for multi-project AI platforms and lead initiatives that impact hundreds of engineers.

You will help define how AI agents plan, build, review, verify, and ship software at Uber, balancing long-term bets with daily reliability. You will collaborate across teams to deploy agent harnesses, governance, and tooling at scale, mentoring

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including building and operating large-scale backend services or developer platforms in production.
• Proficiency in at least one major programming language (Go, Java, Python, or TypeScript).
• Experience setting technical direction for multi-team or org-wide projects through all stages: inception, stakeholder alignment, implementation, and operations.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for the AIFX software factory, guiding multi-day agent workflows from planning to deployment.
• Define the future of AI in Uber's SDLC, aligning leadership behind AI-enabled development processes.
• Shape the wider Uber AI ecosystem by partnering with platform and product orgs to standardize AI agent usage across codebases.
• Prototype, design, and ship critical components with emphasis on evaluation, reliability, and cost across AIFX systems.
• Grow technical leaders by mentoring engineers, running design reviews, and representing the org externally.
