Uber Technologies Inc. in San Francisco, CA seeks a Staff Software Engineer for the AI Foundations & Developer Experience (AIFX) team.

You will set technical direction across AIFX projects, leading efforts used by thousands of Uber engineers and shaping how AI agents plan, build, review, verify, and ship software. You will mentor engineers, guide multi-team initiatives, and partner with platform teams to ensure reliable, scalable AI-enabled development across Uber's monorepos and workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including building and operating large-scale backend services or developer platforms in production.
• Proficiency in Go, Java, Python, or TypeScript.
• Experience setting technical direction for multi-team or org-wide projects through all stages: inception, stakeholder alignment, implementation, and operations.

Responsabilités

• Set technical direction for the AIFX software factory: lead evolution of durable, multi-day agent workflows from planning to landable changes.
• Define the future of AI in Uber's SDLC: drive long-term vision for how engineering works with AI agents and align leadership.
• Shape the wider Uber AI ecosystem: partner with platform and product teams so AI agents span codebases and workflows.
• Lead the hardest problems hands-on: prototype, design, and ship critical components with emphasis on evaluation, reliability, and cost.
• Grow technical leaders: mentor senior engineers, run design reviews, and represent Uber's AI platform externally.
