Capital One is hiring a Staff AI Engineer (Remote Eligible) to help build responsible and reliable AI systems that transform how customers are served. You will partner with engineers, researchers, PMs, and program managers to deliver AI-powered products with cutting-edge models and guardrails.

The role emphasizes system design, model training, inference, governance, and observability, leveraging a broad stack of open-source and SaaS AI tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or AI with 8+ years of AI/ML experience, or Master's with 6+ years.
• 8+ years of programming experience in Python, Go, Scala, or Java.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products that transform how associates work and how customers interact with Capital One.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including foundation model training, LLM inference, similarity search, guardrails, evaluation, governance, and observability.
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, HuggingFace, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, PyTorch, etc.
• Invent state-of-the-art LLM optimization techniques to improve performance, cost, latency, throughput for large-scale production AI systems.
• Contribute to the long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems at Capital One.
