Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to leverage AI as a force multiplier for digital commerce platforms. You will lead technical direction, drive scalable architectures, and elevate engineering practices while guiding teams across products like qualification, catalog, cart, checkout, and payments.

You will work with React/Next.js/Node.js/Java stacks, shaping low-latency services, and mentoring engineers to deliver reliable software at scale.

Qualifications

• At least 8–10 years of coding, debugging, and code review experience with technical depth.
• 7+ years API and system design capability with sound tradeoff judgment.
• Practical use of AI across coding, testing, debugging, and documentation.
• Ability to use AI with structured engineering practices such as specs, reviews, tests, and observability.
• Hands-on experience with React, Next.js, Node.js, Java, and modern web app architecture.
• Strong engineering excellence in test automation, operational automation, and DevOps.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and evolution of customer-facing digital commerce systems across many domains.
• Use AI-assisted workflows to accelerate implementation, review, testing, debugging, and documentation.
• Evaluate AI output for correctness, security, maintainability, and production readiness.
• Drive architecture and API decisions across modern web apps and services.
• Improve engineering excellence through design reviews, testing strategy, automation, observability, and DevOps.
• Build reusable workflows and patterns to boost productivity across engineers and teams.
• Coordinate with product, design, architecture, platform, and operations.
• Coach engineers and influence technical execution beyond code.
